The agenda is simpleArrive at the parking lot of the Indianapolis Art Center. Along with some orientation and test taking, you’ll meet your river guide and instructor, fit a life jacket and pick a paddle; then you’ll help carry a raft to the water’s edge where you’ll launch. After you pass the first swift tumble of water, you’ll enter a secluded riparian corridor between College Avenue and Meridian Street where blue herons frequently forage. The next riffle flows past a handicapped access point to a slow right turn into Holliday Park and a landing; here you will go througn four class sessions (and lunch!). Then you’ll launch again and paddle downstream through a narrows and back onto the main river. The onstream learning begins again, capped by a look at a combined storm sewer overflow site, and runs through two quick tumbles at Kessler Boulevard and upper Rocky Ripple. The rest of the trip is a gentle float and final chatter with your guide and instructor, followed by a raft carry to the debark area and an exit exam. Finally, you board the bus back to school. The other school. Materials at this web site are Copyright 2005–2008 Friends of the White River, Inc. |
