What could be better than helping young people learn? Making it happen outdoors and on-the-water!

River School volunteers fill fun and important jobs — land crew, teacher or river guide. Instructors provide land-based classes on wildlife, watersheds and water quality, or ride in the rafts to discuss hydrology, biology, history and community water issues while the students get firsthand exposure to these topics. The land crew takes teaching gear and lunches to and from Holliday Park, or helps with inflating, deflating and transporting rafts, paddles and life jackets. River guides take the helm of a raft and teach students how to paddle as a crew. All positions require at least one training session.
