Smile and say “All forward”

We chronicle each trip with photographs, some taken on the water from a roving canoe, and others taken during class sessions at Holliday Park, as well as the launch area and the takeout. Look for your school trip, or teacher training session, here.

Bonus! If your web browser plays Quicktime movies, you may enjoy these short video clips.end of story

In one of the outdoor class sessions, students examine live macroinvertebrates and learn how these tiny creatures are classified and what they indicate about water quality. In this clip, several critters share a water-filled container.
Sampling for Macroinvertebrates (636 KB)
Prior to class, volunteers collect these river creatures using nets. This volunteer uses his foot to scoop the sandy, muddy bottom into his net, then looks into the net for specimens. After class, the tiny creatures are released back into the river.
